Everything You Need To Know About The Construction Visa Subsidy Program (CVSP)

Building WA’s Future: Addressing Skills Shortages and Boosting Affordable Housing

Western Australia is undergoing a significant transformation, with major infrastructure and housing developments driving an urgent need for skilled labor and affordable housing solutions.

To meet these challenges head-on, the state government has introduced targeted initiatives aimed at strengthening the construction workforce and delivering much-needed homes for the community.

Bridging the Skills Gap: The Construction Visa Subsidy Program (CVSP)

WA’s construction industry is booming, but workforce shortages threaten to stall progress on critical projects. In response, the Construction Visa Subsidy Program (CVSP) has been launched to attract skilled migrant workers and support construction businesses.

Eligible businesses can receive grants of up to $10,000 to cover:

  • Migration Agent Fees: For professional visa support.

  • Visa Application Fees: To offset government processing costs

  • Relocation Costs: Including travel and accommodation for incoming workers.

This initiative fills an urgent need by ensuring key construction roles are staffed promptly, enhancing productivity, and reinforcing WA’s economic growth. To participate, businesses must be based in WA, demonstrate the need for skilled workers, and meet state criteria.

Our team at Approved Migration Services can assist with visa processes and compliance, helping employers make the most of the program.

Delivering Over 1,000 New Homes Across Perth

In tandem with workforce efforts, the WA government has released a landmark tender to build more than 1,000 social and affordable homes across 14 metropolitan developments.

Part of a $443 million housing initiative co-funded with the federal government, the project will deliver 1,145 build-to-rent apartments, with 80% designated as affordable housing and 20% as social housing.

Key highlights of the initiative:

  • Strategic Locations: Many sites are near METRONET stations, including Ellenbrook, Cannington, and Redcliffe.

  • Job Creation: Supports long-term employment in the building sector.

  • Sustainable Design: All homes will meet Silver Liveable standards and a 7-star NatHERS energy rating.

  • Public-Private Partnership: Homes will be sold to Community Housing Providers, with ongoing affordability ensured through concessional loans and subsidies.

WA Premier Roger Cook emphasised the dual impact:
“Not only will it deliver homes for those in need, it will also boost rental supply and create jobs.”
